After a visit to the Isle of Wight today (April 6th 2013) we had decided we would venture to the sancutuary. We got a little lost much to the dismay of my children and husband, eventually arriving at the sanctuary after lunch at around 3pm. We therefore had just a few short hours to explore and explore we did!
We were just in time to watch the penguin feeding, we have never been so close to penguins and my three year old found it absolutely fascinating to be so close, so imagine her excitement when the staff gave every single child some fish (for free!) to low them to feed the penguins themselves! Just a perfect experience.
We then went on to feed the free roaming ducks and other birds, they were so used to humans and so friendly that both my children were able to sit amongst them and feed from their laps, this was especially great for my one year old who otherwise would have been confined to the pushchair, she was happy to crawl amongst the ducks and hens! Not once did one peck at her and not once did we worry about her being in the middle of literally a dozen ducks!
Then there is the walk through areas! Pet corner, meerkats, birds, alpaca, all free roaming and able to be touched! We took multiple pictures with various birds that had flown around and sat next to us!
The cafeteria and shop are also fantastic! Very clean and staff just lovely!
Our one year old had been feeling a little poorly and we had forgotten her bottle of fresh milk, as we sat down and before my husband could make way to the car, the lovely lady in the cafe offered us to wash out and re-fill her bottle for us. A simple act but a very thoughtful once of which we were grateful. Our eldest child also wondered around off to the shop to choose an toy, staff there were great with allowing her to ask and choose with just a little assistance from myself to pay, she was thrilled she had done it "all by herself like a big girl" and hasn't put down her flamingo since!
Although we had just a few hours we absolutely loved it! Stress free, great staff, lovely animals, ease of access to every single area for pushchairs and wheelchairs and clean grounds. Value for money even for a little while. If we were not moving shortly we would visit again without doubt!
Thank you!
