PRESS RELEASE – 7 August 2012
CELEBRATING A SUCCESSFUL BREEDING YEAR AT SEAVIEW WILDLIFE ENCOUNTER!
Recognised as one of Europe’s top breeders and suppliers of vulnerable Humboldt Penguins and endangered Chilean Flamingos, Seaview Wildlife Encounter, Isle of Wight, has, once again, proudly produced a healthy hatching of young Penguins and Flamingos for the 2012 season.
Sixteen Humboldt Penguin chicks (listed as vulnerable on the IUCN red list) were requested by Internationally-renowned Longleat Safari Park in Wiltshire earlier this year and were hand-reared for their new Penguin exhibit.
A similar number of endangered Chilean Flamingos are being relocated to Belfast Zoological Park later this year, to extend their resident flock and strengthen their breeding programme.
The Park’s gentle mob of Bennett’s Wallabies have a few cute newcomers too – young Joeys are enjoying the warmer weather and are peeking out of their mothers’ pouches. These are a great favourite with visitors – they’re so tame that stroking and feeding forms part of the interactive experience available to all Park visitors on a daily basis.
