Exciting, breaking news ……!!!! Charlotte has booked her ticket and is off to Cape Town for nine weeks on 2nd January 2012! Charlotte has been wanting to travel and volunteer in wildlife and environmental conservation for some time now …. and has finally taken the plunge! Having done some research into projects and organisations, the Southern African Foundation for the Conservation of Coastal Birds (SANCCOB) looked to be a great opportunity. This is an international body, based in Cape Town, dedicated to seabird rehabilitation. Two years ago, our Head Keeper, Tara, embarked on a similar volunteering project with SANCCOB and absolutely loved it – in fact she didn’t want to leave! Charlotte has asked a zillion questions and it’s largely due to Tara’s recommendation that this trip of a lifetime is happening …. so thank you Tara!
Starting with SANCCOB on 17 January, for a period of six weeks, Charlotte is hoping to be involved in rehabilitation projects working with endangered African Penguins and a variety of other sea bird species that have been affected by oil spills, injured by predators or are suffering from illness. It’s also likely that Charlotte will be assisting in hand-rearing abandoned chicks.
Charlotte has kindly agreed to keep us all up-to-date through a travel Blog – with details and photos of her wildlife adventure and volunteering activities. Hopefully it’ll be possible for the Blog entries to connect directly into our Seaview Wildlife Blog – so watch this space!
