Just look at our Dippy – taking the whole outing all in his waddling stride (and loving being the centre of attention!)
Yesterday truly was a day to remember – the day when Dippy chartered a Hover to Southsea! We, along with Hovertravel and press representatives, boarded the Hover at Ryde, leaving at 10.30am. The crossing was quick, smooth and easy. On arriving at Southsea only 8 minutes later, Dippy was pleased to be out of his ‘pet carrier’ and standing on terra firma at the port! After being adorned with a bow-tie and hi-viz jacket, Dippy had a look around, lifted his beak to the sea air and then settled into a relaxed pose for the photo shoot. He seemed completely unfazed by the whole affair and, as usual, loved being the centre of attention!
PRESS RELEASE SENT OUT BY HOVERTRAVEL YESTERDAY EVENING TO THE NATIONAL MEDIA (including newspapers, magazines and specialist children’s publications).
“Dippy becomes the first penguin to fly across the Solent with Hovertravel
Hovertravel, the fastest Isle of Wight passenger service across the Solent, has put on a special charter to fly Dippy the Penguin, from the Seaview Wildlife Encounter, from Portsmouth to Ryde.
Dippy the Penguin, said: "I chose Hovertravel for my journey across the Solent because they are the greenest way to travel. The speedy ten minute journey means they are using less fuel, which results in less drag and less friction. Environmentally friendly travel is important to me and my fellow penguins back in South America and that’s why we love Hovertravel, their craft helps protect me and my friends.
“You don’t even need a car to come and visit me on the island, I live at the Seaview Wildlife Encounter, which is just a short walk away from the Hoverport.”
Dippy is hugely famous on the island, he is no ordinary penguin. Dippy loves posing for pictures, socialising with humans and he is even on Facebook. Anyone travelling to the island with Hovertravel should stroll along to the wildlife park to visit him. To book your ticket visit www.hovertravel.com”
